Celebrating Dedication: Mona Staaf Gunther and the Impact of Rotary in Millbrook

Aired February 15th 2026

Millbrook's Rotary Club is a beacon of community service in the Hudson Valley, largely thanks to the enduring contributions of its members like Mona Staaf Gunther. Recognized as one of the district’s 7 over 70 honorees, Mona personifies the dedication and spirit that resonates through the club’s various initiatives.

7 Over 70 Honors

Mona reflects on being chosen as one of the district’s seven over 70 honorees, a recognition she attributes to the culmination of her extensive service. "It was quite a surprise to me that I was honored with this, and I am deeply grateful for the club that thought enough to do that," she shared, emphasizing her appreciation for this acknowledgment.

Directory Driven Support

A cornerstone of the Millbrook Rotary's efforts is its vibrant directory, an essential tool that not only provides advertising space to local businesses but also funds crucial club projects. Mona, instrumental in its success, has personally secured about a third of the 170 advertisements featured. The proceeds largely benefit initiatives like the youth exchange program and local food banks. "Without the directory, we wouldn't have the money to do the things that we want to do," Mona explained, highlighting its critical financial support.

Community Involvement and Events

The Millbrook Rotary is renowned for organizing impactful community events. Among them, the annual New Year’s Eve Millbrook, a family-friendly celebration with activities for all ages, continues to grow in popularity. The farmer’s market is another key venue where the Rotary connects with the community, distributing the directory and discussing its significance.

Additionally, the Millbrook Rotary supports global humanitarian efforts by contributing to Shelter Box, an initiative that provides emergency shelter and supplies to disaster-stricken areas worldwide. "We promise every year to at least donate one shelter box," said Mona, illustrating the club’s commitment to international aid.

Mona’s Swedish roots and personal journey add to her unique perspective and relentless drive. Having lived in the U.S. for 60 years, she blends her cultural heritage with her community spirit. As she succinctly put it, "Through Rotary, you get involved in the community and get a chance to help other people that are in need."

Join and Support

For those interested in supporting or joining the Millbrook Rotary Club, meetings are held on Wednesdays. More details are available on their website at millbrookrotary.org. Whether through attending events or contributing to the directory, community members play an integral role in maintaining and expanding the club's reach.

As Mona and the Millbrook Rotary Club continue to inspire through actionable service and community involvement, their work stands as a testament to the power of local efforts in affecting global change.
