Reviving New Year's Eve Millbrook: A Community Celebration

Aired December 29th 2024

New Year's Eve Millbrook, a cherished community event, has returned thanks to the efforts of Rotary Club of Millbrook members Ashley Lemke and Michelle DeVal. Originally initiated by Rotarian Joyce Heaton, the event had been on hiatus but was revitalized to bring joy and celebration back to the community.

This year, New Year's Eve Millbrook is scheduled for December 31st from 4 to 7 p.m., located between Lyall Community Church and Grace Church, with the Thorn Building serving as the central hub for check-ins. The festivities promise a lively atmosphere with streets adorned with lights and local police cars adding to the vibrant scene with their flashing lights. The event will feature various activities ensuring there's something for everyone.

For the children, the event is packed with entertainment options including a puppet show presenting the Wizard of Oz, balloon twisters, face painting, and more. The children's fair is geared to thrill the younger attendees, creating a memorable evening for families.

Music is a major highlight of New Year's Eve Millbrook. This year, the event boasts an impressive lineup including the Larry Ham Quartet, known for their jazz renditions, and After Five, a versatile group playing a mix of jazz, Latin, blues, Motown, and pop rock. Additionally, classic piano sets will add an elegant touch to the celebration, allowing guests to enjoy a variety of musical styles throughout the evening.

Food is also a centerpiece of the event, with offerings from local vendors like the VFW serving hot dogs and chili, and the Crepe Truck providing sweet treats. This combination of good food and great music sets the stage for a festive end to the year.

The event is supported by a suggested donation of $5 per person, which includes a button designed by local high school students—a collectible keepsake from the celebration. These buttons can be purchased on the night of the event or in advance at local businesses.

New Year's Eve Millbrook is not just a fun evening out; it's a community builder that brings people together to celebrate the joy of the season and the anticipation of a new year. For those interested in attending or learning more, details can be found on the Millbrook Rotary Club's website or their Instagram page @NewYearsEveMillbrook.

By reviving this beloved event, Ashley Lemke and Michelle DeVal have not only created an opportunity for festive fun but have also fostered community spirit, making New Year's Eve in Millbrook a highlight of the community calendar once again.
