The Marc Foundation: Supporting Recovery and Bringing Awareness to the Hudson Valley
Aired August 10th 2025

Empowering Lives Through Recovery
The Marc Foundation, a volunteer-driven organization based in the Hudson Valley, is making significant strides in the realm of addiction recovery and awareness. Through financial support and community initiatives, they are dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for those affected by substance abuse. At the helm is Michael Fanelli, who has been in long-term recovery for over 25 years and has been giving back to the community through the Mark Foundation for about seven years.
“We’re kind of like the Dyson Foundation of the recovery community. We gather financial support and raise money, and then we dole that money out to other organizations that need financial help," shared Fanelli. The foundation's efforts have led to partnerships with institutions such as Dutchess Community College, where they’ve established two scholarships for those pursuing roles in the recovery field. This initiative supports education and encourages careers in addiction treatment, providing essential resources to those who wish to make a difference.
Community Collaboration and Events
This year, the foundation is proud to host a Golf Tournament at Beekman Golf Club on August 15th. Participants are encouraged to register as either a single golfer or part of a foursome, with all proceeds going towards the cause. This annual event, celebrated for over 15 years, is a day filled with golfing, community engagement, and the opportunity to win fantastic prizes. As Michael Fanelli noted, “If you come once, you’ll be an annual golfer, a supporter of the Marc Foundation 'cause it's a wonderful, wonderful event.”
Another poignant event is their participation in Overdose Awareness Day on August 28th. Held at the Drug Overdose Memorial behind Gold's Gym in La Grange, this event serves as both a remembrance and a community rally against drug abuse. The foundation will host a candlelight vigil, provide resources, and offer an opportunity to purchase a memorial brick in honor of those who have passed. Fanelli emphasized the importance of this event, stating, “It’s a good way to do some networking and to memorialize someone who had passed away from drug overdose.”
