Rotary International's Efforts to Unite for Good and Eradicate Polio

Aired November 9th 2025

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT FRANCESCO AREZZO

Rotary International stands as a beacon of service and unity worldwide, spearheading initiatives that significantly impact global communities. Under the leadership of President Francesco Arezzo, the organization continues its long-standing efforts in making the world a better place. As Arezzo explains, “Rotary is a group...committed to make the world a better place,” embracing dreams of environmental wellness, peace, and health improvements.

One of Rotary's prime focuses is the eradication of polio, a corporate project initiated approximately 35 years ago. Despite common perceptions in regions like the United States, where polio seems a distant memory, Arezzo stresses the urgency of this cause, stating, “We are so near to eradicate polio, but if we stop now, we lose everything.” With ongoing cases in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the dedication to vaccination remains crucial. Rotary has invested significant resources, emphasizing that safety against polio cannot be taken for granted until it is completely eradicated.

Beyond health initiatives, Rotary also partners with organizations like Shelter Box, which provides essential aid after natural disasters. This collaboration underscores Rotary’s global reach and impact in areas hit by calamities. The establishment of peace centers around the world, soon to include a new center in Pune, India, further highlights Rotary’s commitment to fostering peace and resolving conflicts, with ongoing plans to expand into South America.

Rotary International's Youth Exchange program is another remarkable effort that creates “a bridge that we create between two different countries.” This program allows young people to immerse in different cultures, building lifelong appreciations and friendships. President Arezzo shares a personal anecdote of his daughter’s transformative experience with this program, which underlines the long-term benefits and personal growth that these exchanges offer.

As Rotary International tirelessly works to unite for good, President Francesco Arezzo remains a key figure in driving these initiatives forward. His leadership, infused with personal passion and global vision, ensures that Rotary continues to play a pivotal role in global humanitarian efforts.
